Paradise, Birmingham City Centre

The development of the hybrid structure.

Main Contractor

Paradise Circus General Partner Ltd

PCE Ltd were appointed to work on Birmingham’s 17 acre Paradise redevelopment project with a contract value approaching £5 million, to design and build a two storey hybrid structural frame at the city centre location.

The hybrid structure provides a suspended car park level below a podium level that forms the ground floor of two new office buildings, Number 1 and Number 2, Chamberlin Square.

Over 2,500 precast concrete and structural steel components – manufactured offsite – were erected by PCE’s highly qualified on-site team to form the structure, which PCE delivered on a design and build basis.

Suitable for all types of structural frames, the PreFastCore provided safe and easy access for site personnel to different floor levels during the construction programme as well as providing a cost effective means of transferring lateral loads to the foundations.

Offsite quality-controlled manufacture ensured the fit of components into the structure on a first-time basis.

PreFastCore System provided safe rapid full height erection of lift and stair cores and led to faster overall structural completion.

Hybrid design solution enabled flat obstruction free soffits reducing M&E costs and programme.
