PCE Ltd's hybrid structure is revealing a suspended car park level below a podium level that will form the ground floor of two new office buildings, Number 1 and Number 2, Chamberlain Square as part of Birmingham’s Paradise Circus redevelopment project.
The hybrid structure is being delivered on a design and build basis. The upper level deck structure will also provide the surrounding public realm areas around the buildings linking into the existing landscaping of Chamberlain Square and forming a link between the Square and Broad Street.
PCEs Prefastcore system provides a safe, fast and dimensionally accurate solution for the construction. Precast concrete columns, shear walls and steel Deltabeams together with PCE’s innovative GT flooring units provide the structural frame solution with insitu concrete being used where necessary to facilitate structural connections. Other hybrid construction projects are currently being undertaken at Capella, Cambridge (which is nearing completion) and at CEF's new data, IT and marketing centre in Durham. Professional services giant PwC has agreed to take the top four-and-a-half floors of One Chamberlain Square, according to the Express and Star website, which also shows a video showing the year long demolition cycle leading up to this phase of the project.
The Paradise Birmingham website describes the project as:
"Seamlessly integrating contemporary new office buildings, retail and leisure spaces and high quality public realm with Birmingham’s most historic squares and buildings, Paradise is place-making at its very best."
