Over 1,400 off-site manufactured structural components assembled in just 24 weeks meeting the clients high visual architectural requirements, and off-site manufacture aspirations.
Efficiencies in the design process and final assembled solution obtained by use of PCE’s HybriDfMA approach of using off-site manufactured precast concrete and structural steel components together with onsite insitu reinforced concrete reduced the initial expected total concrete usage for the project by over 850 tonnes.
This provided a significant reduction of over 100 delivery vehicle movements to site during the structure’s assembly phase and minimised the structures embodied carbon content.
In total over 23,000 hours of accident-free working on site by only 18 multi-skilled site operatives proved the safety systems priority incorporated by PCE during design, manufacture, and construction stages.
High visual architectural finish requirements achieved. A national Quality Audit carried out by Willmot Dixon including inspection of the manufacturing and construction quality systems used by PCE resulted in achievement of a score of 98.3%.
Just 13 months from initiating design required to achieve structural completion, including the offsite manufacture of over 1,400 precast concrete and structural steel components and their on-site assembly. This achieved despite the Covid pandemic.
The PCE team ensured the University of Warwick’s target of 50% of project value being constructed from premanufactured offsite components was met, including reducing on-site waste and vehicle delivery movements whilst increasing efficiency. Best Use of Concrete Award winner Offsite Awards 2021.
