Construction of precast accommodation blocks in just 40 weeks for the University of the West of England.
The new facilities are housed in 24 blocks arranged in four courtyards – 19 at seven storeys and five at six storeys.
An unusual aspect of the design was the use of precast and prestressed solid floor units which were wider than traditional hollowcore, reducing build time and had a surface finish which did not require screeding and a soffit suitable for direct decoration – eliminating the need for follow-on wet trades.
