PCE Ltd has been appointed by Manchester based Russells Construction Ltd to provide the Design, Manufacture and Construction of an offsite engineered Hybrid Structure for The Loom, a residential development forming part of the £17m final phase of the Vulcan Mill redevelopment, located on Malta Street Manchester.
Designed by MPSL Planning and Design Ltd for client Artisan Investment Group Ltd, the new building will sit adjacent to the original Vulcan Mill, a former Victorian machine works, which was refurbished in 2007 to create 120 apartments. The seven-storey structure will contain 101 one and two-bedroom apartments, a basement carpark and under croft parking/amenity spaces, the structure of which PCE will be responsible for. PCE will commence work on the Hybrid structure in the basement, which will be made up of precast concrete columns, walls, composite concrete/steel Delta Beams and prestressed concrete hollowcore with a reinforced structural concrete topping. PCE will then construct the six levels of structure above ground continuing to use their HybriDfma structural solution approach.
