Update 18 – Chapel Wharf topped out!

Digital expertise combined with offsite construction

The last offsite engineered structural precast unit has been successfully erected on the twenty three storey high tower block, one block of four that comprise the Dandara high rise Chapel Wharf residential development in Salford which will provide 995 rental apartments.

PCE Ltd has worked closely with Main Contractor Sir Robert McAlpine from the start of the tender process to the completion of the four structures developing and executing their HybriDfMA Offsite Design and Build solution to provide a high quality of construction with a fast onsite construction period of only 90 weeks and maintaining exemplarily standards of Health and Safety. The 30 people PCE onsite team often topped the SRM’s Health and Safety Leader Board and were also awarded many Quality and Safety Awards. At the Topping Out ceremony Nickie Brown, Managing Director of PCE congratulated his team on their efforts as well as Sir Robert McAlpine and the other participant companies involved for the excellent team working that ensured the projects success.

Nickie Brown also commented:

“...this project clearly demonstrates how our HybriDfMA Living Systems approach, embracing and maximising our Digital expertise and Offsite Construction processes provides certainty of construction with embedded Quality”.

Based on precast concrete cross wall construction techniques with precast architectural sandwich panels and balcony units which were preglazed offsite enabled construction without any external scaffolding and as the towers progressed fit out could commence just 3 floors below.
