Chapel Wharf update 10 - a 21 tonne 10.21m wide precast unit arrives on site

Delivered on a "just in time" basis

Clear blue skies over Manchester witnessed the installation of the heaviest internal precast concrete wall unit to date at Dandara’s Chapel Wharf project in Manchester. 

PCE Ltd are the specialist design and build contractor appointed by Sir Robert McAlpine to build the structures for the four high rise towers containing a thousand residential properties. The images show how they successfully installed the 21 tonne unit which had been manufactured offsite and delivered on a “just in time” basis.  


The statistics

  • The offsite engineered precast wall unit measures 10.21 metres in length
  • It is 3.845 metres high
  • The unit is only 300mm thick
  • It's just one of 1,600 offsite manufactured precast concrete units that will make up the building.


The final building will consist of twenty three storeys and will be 67.5 metres high.
