As an apprentice at PCE, you’ll be supported as you take your first steps into the world of construction. You’ll gain hands on experience and professional construction qualifications as you work towards an industry accredited NVQ, earning whilst you’re learning.

Our apprenticeship program offers a hands-on learning experience that combines practical on-site training with dedicated study time, offering you the chance to earn while you learn. In our construction apprenticeship, you'll gain valuable skills, work alongside industry professionals, and build a strong foundation for a successful career in construction. It's the perfect way to kickstart your journey in the industry, with real-world experience and mentorship guiding your growth every step of the way.

What is an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a paid job that combines practical experience with training to achieve a nationally recognised qualification.

It’s a fantastic way to take important steps into your career into the built environment, giving you the opportunity to gain practical skills and academic knowledge all whilst earning a competitive salary.

With roles in construction, design, or commercial sectors, we have a range of exciting apprenticeship opportunities available.

Construction Assembly and Installation Operative Level 2

Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) is an efficient and progressive construction philosophy. Safer, faster, and more sustainable than traditional construction, offsite methodologies are becoming key to the development of the UK construction sector. As a market leader in DfMA, our construction apprenticeship provides the platform to build a successful career within the built environment.

Our apprentices work towards an industry-accredited NVQ while gaining hands-on experience and additional funded training to help you upskill and grow. You'll develop essential construction skills with a focus on safety and quality. You'll learn to interpret BIM models, drawings, and specifications, and safely handle pre-assembled elements. Using digital tools like laser levels and theodolites, you'll align installations with precision, conduct dimensional checks, and install temporary structures safely. Additionally, you'll hone skills in structural connections and finishing touches, ensuring quality handovers that meet exacting project standards.

Your journey with PCE doesn't end with the apprenticeship. Upon completion, you’ll be offered full time employment, where we'll create a personalised plan for your continued learning and career development at PCE.

Skills and Knowledge Gained:

  • Health & Safety Compliance: prioritise adherence to regulations.
  • Interpretation and Application: apply information from BIM models, drawings, and specs accurately.
  • Safe Handling Techniques: use safe methods for moving and lifting elements.

  • Dimensional Accuracy: check dimensions and mark positions as per specs.
  • Component Erection: erect various components according to drawings.
  • Temporary Works: install propping and temporary structures as required.
  • Structural Connections: connect structural elements as specified.
  • Finishing Works: complete finishing and install ancillary items as needed.

At PCE, we're committed to shaping your future in construction. Upon completion of the apprenticeship, you'll attain an NVQ Level 2 Slinger Signaller qualification, qualifying you for a blue competent operator CPCS card.

Support

Apprenticeships typically range from 12 to 18 months. We provide time off-site for any necessary online or additional learning, and if needed, we supply IT equipment to help you access your training.

You'll begin your apprenticeship at PCE's Head Office in Tamworth, starting in our Stores. This initial phase helps you settle in, understand how we keep our sites running smoothly, and provides a solid introduction to the tools and equipment you'll use on-site. Once on site, you'll join an experienced and friendly team, where a dedicated mentor will guide your development.

Beyond your on-site mentor, you'll also have our Construction & Training Administrator who will be there to make sure you are supported and settled throughout your apprenticeship. For many, this is a first job and may involve working away from home, so we prioritise your wellbeing and ensure you feel at your best.

Ben Lewis, Head of Assembly at PCE:

''The apprenticeship route at PCE serves two great purposes, both for the company and the individual. For PCE, we are fortunate to get talented individuals involved into construction, providing a safe and supportive working environment for them to flourish. By the end of the apprenticeship, PCE will have gained a trusted, experienced, and valued employee within the business. For the individual, the apprenticeship offers the chance to work in a company with strong values and ethics, who will encourage them to grow and develop under the experienced eye of our tight-knit workforce.

Having joined PCE as a trainee myself, I know what can be achieved when the right behaviours are met with the right opportunities and support.''
