Project Description
Student accommodation at the University of Lincoln
Three blocks of student accommodation
PCE Ltd were onsite at the University of Lincoln erecting three blocks of student accommodation for F P McCann Ltd under a construction only contract.
F P McCann were awarded the design and build project for three blocks of student accommodation of up to eleven storeys high, using their precast concrete crosswall construction solution by Bowmer and Kirkland who were main contractor for the University’s continued expansion of their accommodation facilities at Brayford Wharf.
Offsite engineered units
With an onsite duration of less than six months and a contract value near to £1 million, PCE erected the offsite engineered precast concrete components, as well as the individual room bathroom pods, using their highly experienced site construction team to provide a high quality result with maximum focus on site safety.
The elevated road bordering the construction site
Restricted site challenges
The site of the student accommodation project in Lincoln would have presented a real challenge with more “traditional” construction methods, being bordered by both an elevated main road and the River Witham.
PCE were able to build the facility thanks to the benefits of precast offsite construction techniques.
A combination of a mobile and a tower crane enabled them to complete the project within the anticipated onsite duration of less than six months.
