Why did you join PCE?
In 2016 I was made redundant from my role at TNT due to the department being outsourced to another country, I worked alongside Melanie Brown who approached me about a temporary maternity cover position within PCE and advised who I could contact if I was interested in applying. I looked at the job description and decided to go for it! Carrie & Claire interviewed me, and it was the nicest interview I had ever had, and my whole onboarding process with Claire was brilliant!
Why do you still work for PCE?
Working in the corporate environment previously, the roles I had were very ‘pigeon-holed’, there wasn’t really much opportunity to get involved in other things and you had to go through so many levels of management to get decisions made. At PCE I work much closer to some of the decision makers in the business so things can be decided or sorted out much quicker. Over the last three years the business has grown, and my role has evolved allowing me to develop (and is still doing so) – which keeps it interesting, but more importantly the PCE ‘family feel’ is still highly valued by everyone which I love.
What are you most proud of?
Not only did I have no experience of marketing when I first joined PCE I also knew nothing about concrete! Even though it was a great opportunity for me to get involved with, it was a little bit daunting - there was just so much I needed to learn and understand. However, with the support & help of the marketing team, specifically Norman for his patience... I have since written a number of the project blogs on my own and to see them live on the website and being liked and shared on Social Media – that makes me proud.
What could we improve on at PCE?
I think it would be great if we could have some sort of recognition programme for Head Office staff similar to the Operative of The Month awards. I know this is a much discussed topic, but even if there was just an on the spot reward system set up for Line Managers to utilise at their discretion, I am sure the Staff@Tamworth would be well chuffed with a voucher or some other gesture! Helen provides support for the Estimating, Commercial & Marketing functions at PCE.
