Kingston University Town House update 2 - first precast concrete elements erected

Offsite produced components arrive at Penrhyn Road campus

The first of 300 precast concrete beams and columns have now arrived on site at the new Kingston University Town House project near London.

Following the appointment of Wilmott Dixon by Kingston University, PCE Ltd received a contract worth over £8 million to provide the concrete structure on a Design, Manufacture and Construct basis for which PCE have considerable expertise and management systems. The new building when completed will act as the University's front door and offer a warm welcome to everyone including students, staff, alumni, as well as the local community and visitors from further afield.

BREEAM objectives

The University's Deputy Director of Estates, Connor Wilson, is quoted on the Kingston University website as saying:

"We're aiming to achieve an ‘excellent' BREEAM rating for this work – BREEAM being the globally recognised sustainability assessment method for building development."

3D modelling techniques

Using their in house design capabilities, PCE have applied state of the art 3D modelling techniques in order to ensure that during the structural design process all of the offsite prefabricated precast concrete units are accurately detailed to achieve the desired minimisation of joint details and ease of manufacture to ensure safe and rapid construction.
