PCE's HybriDfMA Frame System uses the "Kit of Parts" approach

PCE Ltd is delighted to be appointed by Kier Construction Scotland to deliver the superstructure and brick-clad façade for the second phase of the £43.5m expansion programme to the Golden Jubilee Foundation in Clydebank, Glasgow. Phase two will provide an expansion of elective surgical capacity, specifically Orthopaedic Surgery and Endoscopy procedures.

Architectural design has been undertaken by IBI Group, civil and structural engineering by Curtins Consulting, with PCE taking the structural design forward from Stage 4. PCE ’s HybriDFMA Frame System will be utilised to quickly and efficiently construct the three-storey superstructure using their "Kit of Parts" approach with 612 no. engineered structural components and clad using 177 no. brick façade panels preinstalled with windows and louvres in just 15 weeks utilising two tower cranes. All elements will be manufactured in eight off-site specialist facilities across the UK and Europe, and when assembled will create 2,550m² per level enclosed by 3,473m² of façade.


Cost and programme benefits

The PCE HybriDfMA system build approach will deliver both cost and programme benefits whilst significantly reducing construction impact and local disruption through reductions in onsite man hours, vehicle movements and site deliveries subsequently minimising noise, dust, and waste. PCE’s approach will also create efficiency gains in the fit-out phase through the integration of cast-in M&E routing and a ‘riser safe’ system within the precast concrete elements creating a safe working environment and reducing work for follow-on trades.

Building performance will be critical for this kind of facility, with vibration control to the floor plate being of paramount importance in the operating theatres and areas with sensitive equipment. PCE has been able to bring expertise from the Bio-Sciences sector, where they have delivered numerous facilities with onerous vibration control requirements - such as the Capella Project - to develop an efficient and cost-effective solution for the Golden Jubilee Foundation project.
