PCE Ltd is a partner in the Innovate UK funded project Decarbonising Precast Concrete.

The recently produced Decarbonising Precast Concrete Report shows that the project developed an optimised structural design and concrete mix technical specification for offsite construction that delivers a net reduction of 40% in the structural precast concrete’s embodied carbon emissions, when benchmarked against the ICE database.

PCE is working in partnership with consultants Akerlof, Accelar, Curtins and precast product manufacturer Forterra as part of an Innovate UK funded consortium to map the embodied carbon within the existing Ministry of Justice secure accommodation designs and to identify opportunities to reduce their actual carbon footprint in the future.

PCE Ltd’s approach to participating in the Innovate UK project ‘Decarbonising Precast Concrete’ was to bring together a team of 7 people from within the business with widely differing experience, knowledge and skill sets to maximise the input into the research.

The project is an important step in the development processes that PCE are determined to progress to enable all HybriDfMA structural systems to offer the best choice for it’s client’s needs including the quest for a zero carbon build.
