PCE installs first of 1,180 precast hyTower System® components

hyTower®  construction of 14 storey Whitechapel Project

Construction is underway at the new 14 storey Aparthotel in Whitechapel for property developer Regal London, utilising PCE Ltd’s innovative hyTower® system.

The system is based on a kit of parts solution and delivers high rise structures complete with integrated façade and MEP solutions, using offsite manufactured structural precast concrete and steelwork components which are then assembled on site. The first of 1,180 precast concrete components were erected on-site on the 21st July 2020, with an expected construction programme of just 25 weeks which will see the building envelope include brickwork and glazing, stair and lift cores, structural framing and ensuite bathrooms assembled to create the 156 room aparthotel. The works are being executed by a team of just 11 of PCE’s multi-skilled construction operatives.

Off-site is the key with limited space

The city centre site is very challenging logistically and so with space at an absolute premium PCE’s strategy to complete as much works off-site as possible is key to the success of the build. Efficiency and operational safety have been further improved through a strategy of preassembly, including temporary edge protection being fitted to structural components off-site. Reinforcement and other construction materials are delivered with the corresponding pre-cast concrete components, this ensures a reduction in the number of site deliveries required and reduces site storage requirements.
