Chapel Wharf update 14 – first two towers structurally topped out

The precast concrete crosswall structural approach

The first two apartment blocks have been structurally completed within the agreed construction programme as a result of PCE’s Offsite Engineered predominately precast concrete crosswall structural approach used on the nine hundred and ninety five unit Build to Rent apartment scheme being built by Sir Robert McAlpine and their client Dandara at Chapel Wharf, Manchester. 

 

The PCE Team recently celebrated the structural completion of two tower blocks, Block A being a seventeen-storey tower and Block B a fourteen-storey high tower, the first two storeys of each being of insitu concrete construction by another specialist contractor. At a topping out celebration PCE’s Managing Director Nickie Brown thanked his team involved with the project:

 “It is a great sense of achievement when you look at the four structures, and extremely satisfying to see the first two blocks structurally complete.

"I felt extremely proud whilst walking around the site and seeing such quality being achieved from design into manufacture and construction and it was pleasing to see all the pre-construction planning and concepts reach reality, the PCE lessons learnt philosophy being effective and the Company’s delivery processes working well. This has been achieved by people who carry the right values to offer certainty and do not accept second best. "The team need to complete the remaining two blocks and I know that all PCE people connected with the project will continue to stay very focussed on quality as well as health and safety, if we do this the project will be an amazing success for everyone connected with this prestigious project.”  

 

The remaining two towers are Block C seventeen storeys and Block D twenty three storeys high, of which currently PCE have constructed up to level ten. All the blocks are being constructed full height including the Offsite pre-glazed external architectural  envelope and balconies without the need for external scaffolding.
