The split-level car park concept features parking at street level with additional spaces on a specially designed upper deck which was constructed to falls to ensure efficient drainage of surface water.
The car park provides more than 320 spaces with 150 places at ground floor level and a further 176 on the suspended deck section. In order to reduce the visual scale of the building, a rustic cedar panelling façade faces the leisure centre elevation with the southern elevation, which forms the entrance to the site, featuring a series of stainless steel wire supports for suspended planting.
PCE was responsible for all aspects of the project from design and commissioning the manufacture and supply of high quality precast units which were produced with factory-floor supervision from PCE’s own staff who provided hands-on approach to the manufacturing and quality aspects of the project.
PCE’s own team of NVQ qualified installers erected more than 550 precast concrete units including 48 external wall units, 235 hollowcore flooring panels, columns, beams, a liftshaft, stairs and landings.
The project also included the construction of a retaining wall structure comprising 145 precast units.
