PCE is delighted to have been nominated for both Digital Construction Excellence and Project of the Year by a Specialist Contractor (over £5m) for its delivery of HMP Millsike.
These nominations recognise the company’s transformative approach to the build industry. Utilising both digital construction innovation and a hybrid approach to Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA), PCE elevates quality, efficiency, and sustainability through its offsite modular build philosophy.
Using Secure Prison, a platform-DfMA build system, PCE design, manufacture, and assemble standardised offsite components in a repeatable format. From components to their connections and the methods used to install them, PCE’s HybriDfMA methodology is built around predictable repeatability and sustainable efficiencies. It’s use on HMP Millsike saw 13,000 PCE components manufactured offsite and assembled safely within 45 weeks. This meant a daily install of up to 100 hybrid components, with the team recording 200,000 hours RIDDOR-free through use of standardised methodologies and the highest commitment to health and safety.
HMP Millsike was not only delivered with speed and safety, but in a way that was both sustainable and socially impactful, too. Components used to assemble the superstructure were designed and manufactured to achieve up to a 12% reduction in embodied carbon. In line with its continued commitment to supporting rehabilitation across the UK Prison Estate, Release on Temporary Licence prisoners were trained by PCE and embedded into the site team to support the superstructures assembly.
PCE’s commitment to digital construction and automation drives us to develop systems that enhance efficiency, predictability, and innovation across our DfMA delivery.
Digital systems are integral to our culture. We value the potential of evolving technology, which enables smart data analysis, touch-it-once processes, eliminates data-dumping, and supports informed decision-making.
It equips us with the information and insight to improve safety, quality, speed, and value. Advanced digital twin technology enables real-time project progress, whilst performance metrics drives continuous improvement across both PCE and its supply chain. Our data capture also compliments compliance with The Golden Thread. With end-user involvement and consideration to evolving technologies and compliance, our digital solution remains both practical and user-friendly.
Through cutting-edge technology and innovative hybrid DfMA methodologies, we aim to continuously enhance operational efficiency and project excellence.
The awards ceremony will take place on 5 September 2024 at The Royal Lancaster London. We are excited to celebrate with our peers and wish all nominees the best of luck.
