CN Awards 2026 Finalist

PCE is proud to announce that we have been shortlisted for MMC Project of the Year at the CN Awards 2026 for 3 Copper Square, a landmark 14-storey commercial structure that demonstrates the power of collaborative, industrialised construction.

Shortlisted alongside Related Argent (Client), BAM (Main Contractor), ShedKM (Architect), Heyne Tillett Steel (Engineer), and Curtins (Design Support Specialists), the project has been recognised for its innovative application of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) and Modern Methods of Construction (MMC).

A True Hybrid Structural Solution

3 Copper Square represents a next-generation approach to commercial construction, combining structural steel, precast concrete, and responsibly sourced mass engineered timber (cross-laminated timber) into a highly efficient hybrid structural solution.

The building is one of the tallest structures in Europe to successfully combine precast concrete with CLT, demonstrating how hybrid and industrialised construction methods can deliver structural efficiency, sustainability, and programme certainty.

Industrialised Construction in Action

The project showcases how early engagement and collaborative working can unlock the full benefits of MMC and DfMA. By integrating design, manufacture, and assembly into a coordinated and system-led process, the team delivered a highly efficient and controlled construction programme.

Project metrics

  • 4,800 structural components delivered
  • 54-week assembly programme
  • Installed by just 26 operatives
  • 11–13 days per level installation
  • 12 offsite factories utilised
  • 22% reduction in embodied carbon

These outcomes highlight the tangible benefits of an industrialised approach, including improved productivity, reduced onsite activity, and enhanced sustainability performance.

Collaboration at the Core

A key driver behind the project’s success has been the strong collaboration between client, contractor, design team, specialist partners and the supply chain. Early engagement enabled DfMA principles to be embedded from the outset, ensuring the structural solution was optimised for manufacture, assembly, and performance.

This collaborative approach delivered:

  • Efficient and buildable structural design
  • Greater programme and cost certainty
  • Reduced onsite complexity
  • High-quality, repeatable construction
  • Improved environmental performance

Recognising Excellence in MMC

Being shortlisted for MMC Project of the Year at the CN Awards 2026 is a strong recognition of the collective effort behind 3 Copper Square and the shared commitment to delivering structural excellence through industrialised construction.

PCE is proud to be part of this innovative project and looks forward to celebrating alongside our partners at the awards.
