Bolton interchange update 2 - £48 million bus station podium

Precast concrete units arrive on site

The new interchange has been developed by Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) and Bolton Council and will include a new bus station opposite the current train station in Trinity Street according to the Bolton News website.

Cllr Guy Harkin, who is deputy chairman of TfGM and former Mayor of Bolton:

"It’ll deal with the real problems we currently have with the number of people trying to get the train to Manchester, and as we’re developing office space on the area we’re expecting a lot of people to start coming to Bolton for work"

Precast units arriving

More than 850 precast concrete units were manufactured offsite and have now been installed by PCE Ltd. Offsite manufacture was undertaken in carefully controlled QA facilities, monitored by PCE Ltd. This ensure that all units that are being delivered will be to approved standards of finish and dimensional tolerance.

Precast elements include:

  • Columns
  • Edge beams
  • Spine beams
  • Wideslab
  • Hollowcore
  • Shear walls
  • Parapets
