How PCE used GGBS to reduce embodied carbon on award winning project

Lower carbon-intensive projects by better specification

The Kingston Town House project where PCE Ltd was responsible for the design, manufacture and construction of the concrete superstructure and associated architectural concrete facades has been used by Jenny Burridge of the Concrete Centre in the March edition of the Concrete Society Magazine to illustrate what can be done to produce lower carbon-intensive projects by better specification.

PCE used Ground Granulated Blastfurnace Slag (GGBS) as a cement substitute at a level of 40% replacement for most elements to reduce the iconic award winning structures embodied carbon.

Nickie Brown, PCE’s Managing Director said:

“As a company we are at the forefront in developing structural building systems and construction methods to reduce the carbon footprint of construction as has been clearly demonstrated by the Kingston Town House structure, other projects we have been involved with and an InnovateUK funded research on Decarbonising Precast Concrete.

"The company is owned by its employees and each one of us is fully committed to making construction cleaner and thus providing a better living environment for the future generations.”
