HybriDfMA design process nears completion for HMP Glen Parva
PCE Ltd is now in the final stages of design for their £35million HybriDfMA Secure – Prison System solution for the Secure Accommodation Houseblocks, Care and Separation Unit, and the Entrance Building for the Ministry of Justice’s new prison at Glen Parva working in collaboration with Main Contractor Lendlease.
The design scope of PCE’s contract for a total of 11 buildings up to 4 storeys in height includes structural modelling in a 3D environment to enable full co-ordination of the offsite manufactured elements that will form the individual buildings together with all the M&E requirements as well as the window and cell door fittings to be cast into the precast concrete units.
Following the success of their HMP Wellingborough project, PCE has taken the opportunity to further refine and optimise their final design for the HMP Glen Parva project.
The Kit of Parts
Based on the standardised approach by the Ministry of Justice and PCE’s HybriDfMA Secure – Prison System, the design team have been able to further enhance the efficiency, safety and cost effectiveness of the PCE ‘Kit of Parts’ approach whilst ensuring the highest levels of quality for the onsite construction phase and finished structures.
PCE’s total digital approach enables both the design and project team to track and monitor the progress at each stage of the project’s development.
Detailed manufacturing drawings are produced by PCE’s in-house detailing team directly from the 3D structural model, which allows PCE to resolve all the interface and manufacture coordination requirements including scheduling of the integrated components that are cast into the precast concrete elements and ensuring accurate distribution of these components to the relevant manufacturing factories.
In total over 1,600 drawings will be produced by PCE for their HybriDfMA structural solution at Glen Parva which includes over 13,000 Offsite manufactured elements of precast concrete, structural steelwork and composite structural steel/concrete Delta beams.
