PCE Secure Living System used again for the new Nottinghamshire Police Custody Suite

PCE Ltd has been appointed as the specialist contractor to initiate design and procure casting mouldage to provide 50 cells and associated structure using their Secure Living Custody Suite System for the new £17.8 million Custody Suite at Radford Road, Nottingham.

This continues the close working partnering relationship with Main Contractor Willmot Dixon who is delivering the project for Nottinghamshire Police, with Gleeds as Project Managers, Architects Corstorphine + Wright, and HSP Consulting Engineers Ltd.

This will be the 15th custody suite that PCE have been involved with in recent times. The 5-wing custody facility will contain 50 cells for male, female and young offenders, together with a purpose-built area for the taking of custody images, fingerprints and DNA samples, all of which will be structurally designed by the PCE in-house design team.

Eventually the ‘kit of parts’ will consist of over 320 precast concrete components which will be assembled on site over a planned 6-week construction period by PCE’s multi skilled workforce.

Even greater dimensional accuracy

This project will utilise an innovative cell layout requiring the significant investment in new cell and corridor wall mouldage to enable even further improved dimensional accuracy, surface finishes, and accurate incorporation of M&E and security requirements within the components.

To help meet Wilmot Dixon’s aim to ensure maximum use of local expenditure and employment, the manufacture of the precast units will take place in Nottingham which will also provide significant benefits in terms of the projects carbon footprint.

A further Nottingham connection is PCE’s Design, Manufacture and Construct Coordinator for the project, Andy Matheson, who graduated in 2018 from Nottingham Trent University in Civil Engineering. Having spent the 3rd year of his course with PCE, Andy is one of several Nottingham Trent University Graduates that the PCE employs following several years of working with the University.
