PCE & Kier set to deliver one of the largest Digital DfMA project strategies in UK construction

New prison development at Wellingborough

Kier has appointed PCE Ltd as superstructure and façade delivery partner for the Secure Accommodation and Entrance Building for the new resettlement prison at Wellingborough, a £253m contract awarded by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) as part of its wider Change, Strategy and Planning (CSP) Directorate within HMPPS. 

Working in collaboration with main contractor Kier, PCE will deliver a precast concrete DfMA solution for substructure, superstructure and facade for the seven four-storey Houseblocks, CASU and Entry and Visits building. As project integrator, Kier is driving a manufacturing mindset for Wellingborough by bringing together a diverse team to deliver a component-led approach. PCE is therefore assisting Kier to install a componentised precast concrete ‘kit of parts’ solution that will incorporate offsite engineered integrated M&E components, secure windows, doors, and prefabricated service modules.

Smart integration and connectivity are at the heart of PCE’s HybriDfMA strategy, which will be key to guaranteeing speed, quality, building performance and safe construction benefits whilst reducing follow on trades, deliveries into site, carbon footprint and the overall delivery programme. PCE was selected due to the proven track record held in the delivery of large-scale DfMA projects with Kier, including the HMP Oakwood project, coupled with extensive experience and expertise in the custodial sector.
