PCE's focus on quality and safety acknowledged during hotel build

PCE provide a high quality construction approach - irrespective of project size

PCE Ltd put the same level of care and expertise into planning and carrying out the erection of an offsite engineered solution regardless of the size of the project, in order to ensure that all aspects of quality and health and safety of operations and meeting programme requirements are met.

A great example of this is the construction only work PCE carried out for precast concrete contractor FP McCann Ltd in erecting an extension to the Holiday Inn Express Hotel in Bath, where the project's Main Contractor is the Bristol based Dribuild Group.

Thousands of offsite manufactured components

For PCE, who carry out Design and Build projects where the components to be erected run into many thousands, such as their current Chapel Wharf and Town House projects, the Holiday Inn Extension at Bath was a small project, but was carried out with the same level of process control and importance. PCE were responsible for the erection of 72 precast concrete wall, floor, roof and stair units, 15 bathroom pods and 4 steel sections, forming a three storey crosswall offsite engineered precast concrete solution supported by a ground to first floor insitu concrete podium structure cast by others. All erection and finishing works needed to be complete within the contracts 3-week programme period allowed for.

Hotel fully operational during construction

During the construction of the extension, the Hotel remained fully operational - resulting in very restricted access for both carrying out the works including deliveries of the precast units. Traffic management became a key part of the operations to ensure safety for all, residents, contractors and suppliers, as well as making sure that nobody was delayed in accessing or leaving the Hotel. PCE Construction Manager John Stevens ensured that the traffic management was effectively carried out by the PCE team resulting in no undue disruption being caused. On completion of PCE’s work DriBuild Project Manager Mark Gibbs was so pleased with PCE’s performance that he wrote to PCE Construction Director Karl Hubbard saying:

"It is not very often I find myself writing this type of email but when I come across a contractor like PCE in respect of how they have carried out there works I will give credit where credit is due! "From day one when John Stevens your Construction Manager turned up with his team everything was organised and professional and even down to the operatives Workwear. "If we had problems, there was always a solution and a sense of urgency to push on the job and get the job done right. "I am very impressed with the day to day health and safety which every morning John would hold a morning briefing to get the lads set for the day and when carrying out activities this was to the highest level with regards to health and safety. "The quality of their work is also impressive with regards to the operatives working together to hit their daily targets. "In a nutshell, if all my contractors performed like PCE my life as a project manager would be very easy and I look forward to the next time we work together. "Please pass on my comments to John and his team for a job well done! And please whatever you are doing with regards to providing this excellent level of service you need to keep doing it as it is working and working very well."

Karl Hubbard was delighted to receive Mark's feedback and said:

"I always have confidence that my team's in-depth planning and operational processes will lead to a successful outcome, however we do not take anything for granted. Receiving such praise from Project Manager Mark Gibbs is fantastic. "Being told that we have done well is very much appreciated by all the team members, proving that our PCE company approach and processes offer best practice regardless of project size in providing customer satisfaction, as this is always the PCE aim.”
