Mersey Gateway update 3 – removing the old precast stair flights

Stairways being replaced at Clifton Road Bridge

These images show how PCE Ltd removed the old precast concrete stair flights from the Clifton Road Bridge between Beechwood and Cholmondeley Road in Runcorn.

They are carrying out the removal and installation of the stairflights over two weekend nighttime road closures using a 200 tonne mobile crane and a maximum of 6 highly trained PCE team members. PCE are replacing them with six new precast concrete units weighing up to 32 tonnes which were designed by Consulting Engineer URS and which have now been delivered to site.
