Mersey Gateway update 2 - turning precast concrete stairways for transportation

6 x units weighing up to 32 tonnes being loaded

These images above show how six large precast concrete staircase units were turned ready for transportation to PCE Ltd, who are supplying and installing them as replacement units for the Clifton Road Bridge between Beechwood and Cholmondeley Road in Runcorn.

The six new precast concrete units weighing up to 32 tonnes were manufactured by casting tread down in high quality engineered timber moulds and then turned through 180 degrees before being delivered to site.

The contract value for PCE is in excess of £200,000 and they are carrying out the removal and installation of the stairflights over two weekend nighttime road closures using a 200 tonne mobile crane and a maximum of 6 highly trained PCE team members.
